Also known as Pitera Essence, SK-II Facial Treatment Essence grew out of the Japanese brand’s research into sake yeast. Its story begins at a sake brewery, where researchers noticed that older workers had remarkably smooth hands despite their wrinkled faces. Research into more than 350 yeast strains led to PITERA™, a fermented yeast filtrate that makes up over 90% of the formula. Launched in 1980, the formula remains unchanged. Made with just seven ingredients, the colourless formula has a water-light texture that absorbs quickly. It leaves no heavy or sticky residue, making it easy to use before serum and moisturiser.
