ALAÏA Crinoline Knit Dress Bougainvillea distils the house’s sculptural knit language into a mini fit-and-flare silhouette. The name “Crinoline” refers to the historical structure once used to add volume to skirts. Here, Alaïa creates that effect without rigid internal support, relying instead on a special crinoline ribbon knit that holds its form through the weight of the skirt itself. The bougainvillea shade brings a vivid counterpoint to the dress’s architectural line. The mid-weight stretch rib knit creates a close, defined shape through the bodice with a composition of 97% viscose, 2% polyamide and 1% elastane, while the waistband’s higher elastane content sharpens the waist. The 100% viscose skirt adds fluidity and reveals its volume more clearly in motion. A sleeveless cut, scoop neck and pull-on construction keep the look clean and uninterrupted. The fit is generally considered true to size, though French sizing and the short proportion are worth noting when choosing a size.
